Spending Limits
Spending limits let you control how much a website can spend without asking. When a payment fits within the limit, it's approved automatically. When the limit runs out, the extension asks for every payment again.
Setting a limit
You can set a spending limit in three places:
- From the payment prompt — When a website requests a payment, check "Remember budget" and enter an amount
- From the site budget bar — The bar at the top of your wallet shows the current site's limit. Tap it to adjust.
- From Connected Sites — Open the site detail view and set the budget in the spending limit section
How it works
- A site requests a payment of 50 sats
- Your spending limit for that site is 1,000 sats with 200 already spent
- 50 fits within the remaining 800 — approved automatically, no popup
- You see a browser notification: "50 sats sent — 750 sats remaining"
- The budget bar in the wallet updates in real time
The budget bar
When you open the extension while browsing a website, the wallet tab shows a budget bar at the top:
- Site has a limit — shows a progress bar with spent/total and the domain name
- Site has no limit — shows a subtle "Set a spending limit" prompt
- Nearly exhausted — the bar turns yellow, then red as you approach the limit
- Used up — shows "Budget used up — payments need your approval"
Tap the bar to open the full site detail view where you can adjust, reset, or remove the limit.
Pausing a limit
You can temporarily pause a spending limit without removing it. When paused, every payment requires your approval — but your limit and spent amount are preserved. Toggle it back on anytime.
Resetting spent amount
Tap "Reset" in the site detail view to set the spent counter back to zero. The limit stays the same — you just get a fresh budget.
Removing a limit
Remove the limit entirely from the site detail view. The site will need to ask for every payment going forward.
